This recent high mileage 1.9 tdi golf, had been reporting air mass faults and complete loss of power, with non start on some occasions.
Previous garages had replaced:
3 x new air flow meters. ... 1 x second hand turbo 1 x reconditioned turbo 1 x boost sensor 1 x second hand ecu kit
I was reluctant to take this on due to the age and mileage , but the owner was happy to proceed , with the car holding sentimental value to him.
Within two hours of diagnostic testing, the fault had been found.
As you can see , the intake manifold was full of more shit , than our politicians 🤣

A recent 2013 berlingo in with intermittent ABS and brake warning lights coming on .
Using the scan tool or "computer" , revealed no comms with the ABS unit , meaning no fault codes , no live data.
This is not the end of the world. This Instance alone , can help set you up for your next stage of diagnosing the fault.
... The scanner was used to access other modules on the van, and a few where reporting no comms issues with the ABS module. Basically, they could not see it was there .
This set up the next stage, looking for the ABS power and ground supplies, and load testing them. This involves dealer wiring diagrams and pin-out info, an unseen area to the general public, as to what actually goes on, beyond " plugging in a computer " .
When these where verified as ok , the next area to look at was the ABS network or CAN line , using the picoscope . The CAN signal could be assessed and see what sort of communication pattern was emerging .
This began to reveal the fault , as can be seen in the video, with further investigation proving a failed ABS module, causing a breakdown in the CAN network .
Abs lights aren't just caused by sensors and rings , there can be a wee bit more to it than that 😁

I really didn't know you could fit an airbag in a 2.7ohm resistor 😎
... People don't realise how dangerous this is .
It's not the fact your airbag won't deploy and you will snap your neck in two,when you bounce your head off the steering wheel in a crash, and likely end up with your head buried through the steering with a crushed skull and needing a wheel barra to gather the contents of your head from the dash. It's not that at all, no.
You could get a 2p resistor in the eye.

4 new denso injectors fitted to a poorly toyota rav4 recently at Autodoc.
Starting issues and cutting out when towing.
This vehicle was proven and confirmed with injector issues , without the need to remove Injectors for bench testing, through specific diagnostic testing.
... Luckily this fault was able to be narrowed down fast and accurately , due to the severity of the symptoms.

Battery drain faults can be expensive if diagnosed wrong.
A few jobs in recently at Autodoc, had already had new batteries and alternators fitted to try and cure a battery draining issue overnight.
One of the vehicles had a new battery at £95 and then a new alternator at £210, in a hope to cure the issue .
... That's 305 quid , in parts alone, not labour, to not fix the fault.

An Interesting job recently, that took a bit of patience, and a test procedure that flushed out the fault first time , with no unnecessary parts fitted .
2015 kuga with no door lock or window operation on the rear left, with the door being completely dead locked .
The cause of this was actually coming from a wiring issue , in behind the Front door .
... Fault found, repaired , and the doors operation became fully functional again.
All the scan tools in the world can't find these types of faults. The general public believe it's just a matter of hooking in a computer that will point you straight away, to a piece of wire on a car full of wires , with a 1mm section of damage on it .
It takes a very detailed test procedure, using multiple tools and wiring diagrams, to hunt down a needle in a haystack like this.

Well there was one fella very helpful, had huge hands, white hair and looked like a cross between a Mexican and a Nigerian, even though he "hmmmmd" a lot, seemed to always get the work done while his younger boss, seemed to be running after sheep shouting 'you're my next'. Must be a good price for Sheep there.
