Yesterday we said a sad goodbye to team member Dick Davey, who leaves us to pursue a career in photography preceded by a trip to Kenya via the Wirral!
Many of our customers will know Dick who has always provided superb service to all and it's been a pleasure to watch him grow as the business has grown and we have enjoyed seeing him learn and develop his own style within the restaurant.
He will be greatly missed by all the team here at Amma's Canteen and we wish him every success for the future. Thanks for everything Dick and good luck!

On Bank Holiday Monday, we invited people to come and join us for food and drink and to pay what they want for their meal.
We had the idea to celebrate our (belated!) first birthday here in Chorlton and wanted to give something back to the community that had welcomed us..
We asked our customers to nominate a charity of their choice and the overwhelming decision was "Reach Out to the Community" who are based here in Chorlton who do incredible work with homeless people and t...hose in food poverty.

100% of the money taken on the night was to go to the charity and our diners were most generous with their payments.
Our wonderful staff gave up their time for free (along with some family and friends) to work so hard on the night and we hoped to get the support of our customers for a rare Monday opening.
You didn't let us down, the restaurant was busy all night and also received some lovely donations from others to the cause.
We are proud to announce that together (with a little rounding up from us as a final thanks) we raised the incredible sum of ┬Ż1,850 which will go straight to the charity for their work.
Thanks so much to all who came, donated, gave their time, even shared the event on here. You all made it a great success and we had a great evening.

What a brilliant evening down here in the restaurant. The final tables have left and we are heading home.

Afternoon all, you may remember a while back we told you that we were so busy running the restaurant we managed to miss our one year anniversary of opening here in Chorlton!
We wanted to do something to give a bit back to the community that's welcomed us and made it such a great first year as we've gone on our journey to celebrate this milestone.
With this in mind we will be holding a Charity Night on Bank Holiday Monday 27th August where we will be donating 100% of the money... taken on the night to a charity to mark the occasion.
First thing we need you to do is to put the date in your diary as we will need you there! Ō£ģ­¤Śō’ĖÅ­¤ōØ
We are just finalising a plan of how we will price things and how to book but we're going to make sure that you get great value and we all raise as much as we can.
Second thing we need you to do is to suggest a charity that we can support. It can be any charity you like from Christies to a smaller organisation but all we ask is that it is local to Chorlton and Manchester and is a registered charity.

Visited here today and the food was absolutely beautiful, staff very friendly too

Visited early on Saturday, booked last minute. The team were all excellent, the food even moreso. The lamb curry was one of the tastiest things we've eaten in a long time. Highly recommend.

Took my partner here for her birthday. She is vegan and the staff couldn't have been any more helpful with food choices and information. The food was outstanding. We shared a lot of the small plates rather than trying the mains but we will definitely be back soon to try the rest! Try the plantain dessert, it is amazing. The flavours of all the food was amazing. It was very reasonably priced too, we thought :)

This place you have to try! After driving past it so many times we decided to check it out. The vibe is lovely and relaxed, the food is next level and the staff took the time to tell us about the dishes we were eating and how they are made and where they originate, exceptional cuisine! Something for everyone too in terms of dietary preference. Be back again soon no doubt. ­¤æī­¤Å╗ŌØż’ĖÅ

This is a great place to eat. The owners are fab and remember you. They're simply ace. The food is well cooked and wonderfully tasteful. It's brill. Been a few times and will definitely return.

Superb, fresh, delicately delicious, visually stunning food. Ordered Dosa's which were incredible, particularly the pulled beef, and started with the spicy Chicken 65, and the delectable Karuveppilai Eral prawns. All washed down with a crisp pint of Kingfisher. To top it off, the chef himself popped out of the kitchen to attend to us, make sure of our enjoyment, and to explain in detail the recipes involved.

I took my brother here recently when he was on a flying visit (he lives in NY!) and we both agreed this was some, if not the finest south Indian food we had eaten, including a lot that I was lucky enough to try visiting Kerala many years ago.

The service was impeccable, but also warm and welcoming - and matched in quality by each dish we tried (loads).

Standouts were mussels, roast beef and the fish curry, and a perfectly cooked dosa.

The drinks list is relatively limited, sure, though the wine we had was totally decent, and I got the impression the owners are developing the range.

There's a lot of choice in and around Chorlton for food - that's no secret - but Amma's stands out for the quality and dedication that comes through in the cooking.

Highly recommended.

I got seated given the menu and asked if i have any dietary requirements. Brilliant, i told them i was vegan got told VF was vegan friendly but they could also adapt 2 other dishes if i wanted. Lovely food and brilliant service. Definitely recommend.

Food is delicious as always, and the service is brilliant. The owner/manager and all the guys who served us were really attentive and came over throughout the meal to check everything was ok, the owner/manager also noticed I loved the beer glasses and then gave me a box of 6 to take home!! Fantastic food, great combinations of spices and textures. Trio of desserts was delicious. Had the chicken Dosa and a bit of a variety of starters, all brilliant. Lovely warm, helpful and friendly staff -Will definitely come back!!!

Fantastic food and great service.

I'd heard good things about Amma's Canteen and was delighted to finally go there for lunch with friends. We were all taken aback by quite how brilliant and delicious the food was. My friend commented, "it's like eating food off Masterchef. It's so beautiful. " Another friend, whilst ticking in to the most beautiful lamb I've had said, "I can't remember the last meal I had that was as good as that. Normally something is a bit disappointing but everything is amazing".

It really was incredible. We spent a good 2 hours enjoying a fantastic lunch, with guidance on what to order from the owner who was really friendly and took time to explain all the dishes to us. The young waiter was attentive without being obtrusive, delightfully polite and seemed happy in his work. They usually close for lunch at 3, but they kindly brought us coffee, chatted to us about the mixed origins of the food and how things are cooked and let us relax and stay until past 3:30.

An absolute gem of a place.

Get down there for lunch. No special offers at the moment for lunch but none needed. The prices are reasonable and the food is out of this world

By no means your average Indian restaurant!. We enjoyed a diverse selection of small plates recommended to us by the chef. Flavours were fantastic and the staff friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back soon.

Ate this evening at ammas with a friend from Leeds .. I had the beef sukka with plain rice and my friend chose a starter of tamirind chick wings . Execellent attentive Waiter who was pleasant , polite and helpful

Explaining the menu to us . Food was tasty and good value . The chef came out and chatted to my friend who was of Punjab origin . An enjoyable evening will definitely be back. All round pleasant experience.

Ate here for the first time yesterday - amazing flavours, freshly cooked to order and plenty of vegan options - will definitely be returning. Superb!

Amazing food. Great choice for vegetarians, people who want gluten free and meat eaters. Wonderful service, lovely staff. One of the best Indian restaurants I have been to. A real gem in Chorlton. Not to be missed.
