Our wine of the week is the delicious, just off-dry Schloss Johannisberg Riesling 'Gelblack' Trocken Rheingau 2016. Regarded as one of the best wines from the region, the producer's 900 years of wine-making are evident. It offers a great balance between freshness and acidity, and makes an ideal partner for pork and duck dishes.

Made for making a grand entrance ✨

The salt and pepper prawns are to die for. From the soup to the shanghai noodles to the rice everything was fantastic.

I was treated to a special mother's day surprise lunch by my husband and daughters. Ambience was great. The food was very delicious, dessert Traditional Toffee

Temptation was divine melt in your mouth hmmm yummy. Service was top notch, and staff very attentive to detail. Had the best time. Would definitely go back with hubby for dinner on my birthday in April.

China Tang at The Dorchester did not disappoint

User

I was a bit sceptical about making a reservation here given the mixed reviews, however the a la carte halal menu enticed me to book.

I was not disappointed at all, the food was phenomenal in particular the duck. It was a real melt in your mouth dish. The lobster and spinach soup was flavoursome and the Prawns stuffed three treasures was a delight. I didn't think I would have room for dessert given the 7 dishes we ordered but I did. The restaurant also went the extra mile and gave my husband an additional dessert with Happy Birthday on which was indeed a nice touch. Our waiter was very helpful, he recommended a few dishes to us and was very attaintive. Thank you for making it a wonderful evening. We would highly recommend this restaurant, don't let the reviews put you off !! We are big foodies and we will definately be coming back soon. One of the best halal chinese's ever eaten.

User

I have eaten here on many occasions now. I have always enjoyed the food and very impressed with the consistency.

User

Excellent service and even better food. I highly recommend this restaurant.

User

Excellent food and service. Will definitely go again. The fact the tables were too close to each other and there was a lot of noise it didn’t put me off. It just added to the ambience.

User

Excellent food and service, except tables were too close to each other and there was a lot of noise.

User

Excellent food and service !

After travelling the world eating in the finest of restaurants I have to say our meal last night takes the crown. Our guru

Advised us , we dined on crab, lobster, Dover sole and the chefs favourite pudding....... it was awesome to the point of pole position of finest of meals ever. We dined late as had attended the theatre seeing “ Tina Turner Musical ” - the meal didn’t lay heavy and remained “ simply the best”

Soup & Dim Sums were very good

So was the crispy duck.

Noodles wasn't that great.

They forgot one of our main dishes for which they compensated with free dessert platter.

User

Highly recommended for Halal food eaters!

Their speciality is Peking duck! Very tasty if you have not eaten before you must give it a try!!

Followed by soup (hot n sour) and then main course with such a great ambiance you can spend a nice evening there...

Beautiful sumptuous surroundings, very elegant and a fabulous art deco feel. The cocktails were beautifully presented, with an abundance of different spirits and flavours.. The restaurant is also beautiful, lovely lighting and very comfy seating.. In terms of the food: the lobster and spinach soup was under seasoned, but my friend loved his sweet and sour soup. The mains were delicious - scallops in black bean sauce, beef in oyster sauce, bean curd with minced shrimp, pak choi and a selection of fried rice. Overall the mains were very good, but I agree the presentation is slightly lacking.. Served flat on a plate is not massively inspiring and with a spoon it is difficult to scoop up the food onto your plate.. I do think bowls would be more practical, or something with a curved bottom.. In hindsight, the overall presentation was lacking, but at the time we didn't notice as the food itself was too good to focus on anything else.. !

User

The food was good , but the vegetarian options were not brilliant . I ordered tofu and vegetable rolls that were baked and fried, which were very disappointing , and sweet corn soup , which was mediocre .

My main course was lovely though.

User

I have been at China Tang 3 - 4 times before and found it excellent but yesterday the soup, sizzling lamb, the duck.. everything was just average. I was shocked how the taste of the food was not upto the standard which I would expect at the Dorchester. Also found the waiter was average with the knowledge he had of the menu.

So I was disappointed as I took my daughter there for her birthday.

User

Couple of years ago it was excellent food . I use to go once a month but it not now generally food is not in a good Estandard ! And staff is not as professional as used to be .very disappointed.

User

Booked the Dorchester with high expectations and have to say was rather disappointed. Booked the table for 6 people, and I received a phone call to confirm when it was stressed that the table had to be returned after 2.5 hours. On arrival the lady checking us in couldn't be bothered to acknowledge the rest of the party who came down in the lift. We arrived at the table which was only a table of five despite having confirmed 5 hours earlier. It was such tight seating that the waiters kept knocking my chair as they walked past. The service was awful, waiter was not interested in helping us with the menu or suggesting any recommendations, and it took ages to get their attention. Food was ok, nothing spectacular as I expected from a place like the Dorchester. Left feeling that my local Chinese served better food with better service. It seems to be just the name of the Dorchester that is hiking of the phenomenal prices..

A group of 8 of us dined at China Tang to celebrate my daughter's birthday this week. Sumptuous decor and I loved the recorded poetry being read out in the restrooms. The food was disappointing for a supposedly top class and evidently very expensive restaurant.Very ordinary. Not enough duck in the Peking Duck dish. Greasy prawn toast. Beef cannelloni slimy. The food should be better quality and more exciting - not the same as you'd get from Dim T.

The service was very good as should be expected.
